Architecture of the Bahamas

Since I'm sure many of us have spring fever what better way to give yourself a energy blast with some inspiration from the Bahamas.  Not only does the Bahamas hold a treasure trove of buildings from the 19th and 18th century when it was ruled by the British Empire, it gives its own Bahamian twist on these buildings with flairs of color and tropical inspiration.  The earliest of these  buildings were acclimated towards catching the trade winds and were built with tall ceilings, large windows, awning style wood shutters which were common building traits for later buildings.  Structures were also often built with a foundation of rock or coral to not only avoid flooding and rot, but to also allow more air flow.

I thought it was so cute how the police stand on these and direct traffic.

I loved this building with the large look out balcony

These photos were all taken on Nassau Bahamas.  The Bahamas has many many islands and I sadly only was able to explore a few, but I hope on my next journey I am able to view more aspects of life here.  The islands all hold a different feel and atmosphere that is well worth exploring.

If you like what you read and want to see this blog and projects keep going PLEASE feel free to donate something, even if it's only a little bit.  Every little bit helps on this restoration project. Thanks again!
