Former Family Chateau in Czech Republic

I thought today I would share with you the history and some information of a former family chateau which is now a museum in the Czech Republic.  The building is absolutely stunning to say the very least and is kept in very good condition.  I visited in the early spring while the museum was closed to the public, however the staff was kind enough to arrange a special visit to allow me to view the home.  Since the chateau was closed for the season the heat wasn't on (which is common practice in the winters here) and so it was a bit chilly, but had an amazing experience that I will never forget and I hope you enjoy too.  Currently it has been a renowned horse museum and farm.  A wood structure on this site is first mentioned in the 13th century.  The wood building was more than likely burned to the ground in the 1400s.  My ancestor purchased the property in 1575 who decided to build a Renaissance chateau fitting of his wealthy and knighthood status. In 1594 the estate was sold to another family who continued the development.  This was the story for the next few hundred years where owners changed the style to Baroque and then Victorian additions.  Wealthy owners building on the property and improving it which lasted until WWII when it was confiscated by the government.  It has since been in the states hands and used as a museum.

Stunning Tile Stoves.  These are quite amazing and very efficient.  Only using a small amount of wood the heat produced is consistent throughout the day allowing for even temperature.  The stoves do not get too hot to touch so people often put their chairs right up next to them.  Here is a cut away of how they work with the numerous smoke chambers:

If you're ever in the Czech Republic please see this place.  It's quite amazing!

  1. Restoring old structures and buildings is like maintaining a piece of history for the future generations to learn and appreciate. These structures have existed for many years; take this chateau-turned-museum in the Czech Republic, for example. They should check out its ceiling and tile stoves, which keep the museum warm all throughout the day.
