Compare USA Preservation to Europe

One of the many things I love about Europe is their appreciation for old buildings (generally speaking). Take this building. It is a complete shell. No roof, no interior, just the facade left yet it is being redeveloped into something new. There is an understanding of of an old building's context and presence in an area. In the USA this would demolished without a second thought, but because of protections, the facade here must remain and the interior can be made however the owner wants. A fabulous and GREEN reuse of history. Don't tell me old ruins and buildings can't be redeveloped in a cost efficient way. They can and there are thousands of examples in front of our eyes.
