So close yet so far

With summer here,  I'm trying to do some radiator business which I loathe but it's a necessary evil.  This last winter I found my dream radiator,  a matching rococco warming oven.  Everything i dreamed of! It was a few states away and I was several thousand miles away at the time,  but I jumped on the chance because I don't see these often.  I bought it,  had it shipped to my house and it sat in the garage for my plans this summer. As i was getting ready to hire the movers,  I wanted to pressure test to make sure all was OK....... well my heart sank to find out it has leaks.  I'm devastated and now thinking how I go forward.  I can't seem to find someone in Minnesota who can disassemble this one that isn't held together with rods.  I know someone who has sections who can replace the sections if they leak but nobody to take apart.  I have to question my sanity now.  I've already paid some good money on this gamble that I lost,  do I find someone 5 states away who can repair or just give up?  I'm not someone to give up easy but financially how much is enough to get a working warming oven?

  1. Hi Matt, I have to admit that a warming oven radiator is pretty cool (or should I say "neat"). At college we had regular radiators. They served soft cookies (which I abhor) in the dining halls, but I placed them on the hot radiator overnight and they got nice and crisp. We also cooked in our fireplace, which all dorm rooms were equipped with. (The fireplaces are still there, but students are not allowed to light fires any more.)

I once posted a photo of an unusual and attractive Gothic-looking radiator in my Painesville, Ohio post (about halfway down):

    1. Sounds like a lovely dorm. How charming to have something with character in your dorm room rather than the dorm halls I have seen.

Jim you must be reading my mind because the radiator that you referenced in your post.....well it happens to be one that will be in an upcoming post of mine!
